Holiday Rituals That Refresh & Restore - At Home With PURA's Founder
The holidays are certainly a bustling time of year - especially when you own and operate a skincare company, have three young children, and an energetic, new puppy dashing about. As such, PURA's founder, Lane Edwards, takes this time of year in stride and understands the importance of slowing down in order to be energized for those moments and activities that nurture lasting memories with her loved ones (and her puppy). From PURA's inception, Lane has focused on the intention behind her skincare line -- to inspire you to give back to yourself. At PURA, we truly believe that the intimate time we spend with ourselves while indulging in our AM & PM rituals is not only beneficial to promoting radiant, healthy skin, but to also feel truly relaxed, centered, and naturally beautiful. Keep reading as she shares all her secrets to recharge during this busy and festive time of year.
Bath Time Bliss
"My favourite self-care ritual is bathing, especially in the winter. About an hour before I put the kids to bed, I sneak off to my little bathroom oasis, close the door, run the hot water and pour in our Whimsical Bubbles. I couldn't live without this clean, plant-based bubble bath. They barely exist, so I had to formulate one for PURA with skin nourishing botanicals and soothing aromatherapy. I can't stand bathing in synthetic fragrance. It's too stimulating and doesn't nourish my senses. Sometimes, I'll leave my phone in my bedroom so there's no temptation to be scrolling social media or keep working as I soak. I love the heat and deep relaxation that comes when my body feels weightless in the water. Afterwards, I apply the Cocoa & Rose Body Oil as a post-bath sensorial treat to deeply hydrate my skin. Cocoa absolute is a rare and antioxidant-rich key ingredient, and rose geranium is known to help balance a woman's hormones."
Nostalgic Kitchen Therapy
"I have so many cherished childhood memories baking with my mom. Looking back, I realize how much patience she had, now that I have my own three kids. My brother gave me such an amazing gift last year - a binder full of her most treasured recipe cards. My family loves this Classic Peanut Butter Ball recipe and every time we make them, I am reminded of her. We store them in the freezer and bring them out as a special treat when friends pop by during the holidays."
Magical Melodies
"I grew up listening to classics and the ever-popular, 70's Euro-disco group, Boney M. When I was about eleven, my brother and I used our camcorder to record us lip syncing the entire Boney M. greatest hits album as a Christmas gift for my mom. I'm sure she loved it. My husband grew up listening to Alabama Christmas and Kenny & Dolly's, Once Upon A Christmas. Now we've just melded all of our holiday favourites together, including some more modern artists I love that are on PURA'S Spotify Playlist. It's light, dreamy, and gets you in the holiday spirit."
Christmas Cozy
"I really trust my instincts when it comes to decorating and nesting. We live in a bungalow, so I've had to practice restraint to create impactful beauty that's not too much or overdone. My favourite possessions have meaning, like many of the heirlooms my mother left me. I love a space to feel airy, but grounded, starting with mixture of textures and contrasting neutrals. White, black, gold, grey, cream, with pops of green, including plants. I love plants, obviously. PURA potions are full of them. At Christmas, I always feel excited to beautify our home. Beautiful garland, good food, warm white lights, and a Christmas movie on the TV never fails to flood me with joy."
Effortless Entertaining
"My husband and I love entertaining in our home. When you live in a place that gets as cold as Edmonton, your home is your haven and an intimate place to spend time with friends. My husband is an amazing cook and loves to run the kitchen, so I happily let him. I enjoy making sure our home feels cozy and comfortable for our family and guests. In the evening, I love dim lights, non-scented candles, the flickering light from the fireplace, luxurious throw blankets, and a signature cocktail, as no great night starts with a salad, unless it's burrata."
