We were given the opportunity to spend the afternoon with Erin Sousa, the fabulous Beauty & Lifestyle Editor of the most glamorous guide to fashion, design, motherhood, and beauty- Glitter Guide and founder of Sparkle Media.
I always find the New Year refreshing- a time to reflect and think about how I can refine my life and my goals for the upcoming year. It's that reset button I always look forward to. Not to mention, 'Sweet 16' has always been my favourite number.
We had the pleasure of having Dallas Curow come into the studio and photograph our potions and creative space. She is a dreamy wedding and portrait photographer who just moved to Edmonton with her husband from Toronto.
Confession- I'm a recovering serial dater when it comes to my beauty products. I tend to keep around a whole handsome gang of fancy potions, lotions, and mists. I think almost every woman has a cabinet overflowing with products. But lets be real here- how many are you actually using?
The heart of conversation centred around the exquisite selection of oils, like bergamot, magnolia, moss, neroli, myrrh, bitter orange, and so on... The unique language that comes along with perfuming began to surface in conversations too. The laughter. The bonding over the power of scent. Who loves what and why?
There's something comforting, and oh so divinly ritualistic about beauty secrets that have been passed from generation to generation. Some of the strongest and most fond memories of my mother are how she would take time look after her skin and body.
Its all looks pretty, and most of it smells lovely too, but what are you really inhaling when you put that lotion or perfume up to your nose? Or better yet, slathering it all over your skin. Glossy packaging and promises to stop the years from creeping up on your face entice all of us. How do we know what's actually effective, safe and made ethically?
What we love so much about our potions is that they're not mass produced in factories in far off lands by people who have absolutely no connection or knowledge of Pura. They're handcrafted right here in our studio in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Growing up, my mother had a love affair with all things white and cream. I was always encouraging her to bring more colour into our home, whether it be in her wardrobe, a piece of furniture or accessory.
As a child, I'd spend hours at a tiny step by the side of our home making potions - mixing together dirt, seeds, flowers, and rocks. I was happiest submerging my hands in my soft cool muddy concoctions and believing my potions were healing salves and elixirs.
We were thrilled to officially open our doors and welcome green beauty lovers to our natural skincare apothecary and eco-luxe perfumery. Our guests were buzzing with excitement, while sipping on champagne and taking in the new space filled with potions and our collection of eco-friendly, handcrafted skin and body care.
